With the Lone Star discount, up to four people per card holder can benefit from lower prices at the gate. Lone Star cardholders will be offered discounted admission prices on Wednesdays of each week and on select Sundays each month, the GPZ said in a news release. Prior to the March 10 entrance fee increase, adult tickets were $16, senior prices $14 and $10 for children. The price of zoo visits will range from $14 to $19 for adults, senior prices will range from $12 to $17 and prices for children will range from $8 to $13. Officials said the increase is also necessary to help maintain the zoo's operation.

Gladys Porter is not a very big zoo, but it does have some species that you won't find in many other zoos. The heat wore me out quicker than expected (I intentionally wore my steel toe boots to get a workout and wear myself out faster, but it worked too well!) so I didn't spend as much time as I planned, but I got a decent amount of photos. I really wanted to go to the zoo earlier in the year to avoid the extreme heat, but some stuff came up so my scheduling didn't work out. I wasn't able to get good pictures of the Philippine crocodile or the pygmy hippos. Jerry Stones, the facilities director for the Gladys Porter Zoo in Brownsville, Texas, the birthplace of Harambe, told ABC News that he was there for Harambes birth and raised him like a child. I wasn't able to take a lot of good exhibit photos with my big camera so I took some with my phone camera, I'll have to upload them later.
